Thanks hassell, I going to start trying to round up more of this wood. I really like the grain it has.

 

There is quite a bit of juniper growing around here, I've never heard it called that but know wood crafters really like it.

 

There are several types of juniper the Shaggy Bark has a shaggy look to it, another type around here is called Alligator Juniper and its bark resembles the skin of an alligator.l I will try and take some pics of the two.

Our junipers look more like the shaggy variety. I bet they smell good, too.

 

Thanks, just got off our BC gov. site looking at juniper's, we have the rocky mtn. juniper and another variety that they class as a shrub. Ours look like the shaggy bark pic., the berries on some varieties are used to flavour gin and have been since the 17th century.

 

Didn't know gin was flavored with juniper. No wonder gin has such a bite to it.

 

I've also seen cedar waxwings feasting on the fruit.
