I hope your nightmare is over, Murph.

All we heard about was how the drastic weather affected Texas but not a word about Oklahoma in the news.  I trust you don't mind that I used your words from a PT post in a piece I wrote last week to let everyone know in Michigan and beyond how dreadful your situation had become.

You can read the column that was published in our daily newspaper, The Argus-Press, yesterday here:  Mother Nature's Cruel Ways - ThinkingAfield.org

Thanks for all you do behind the scenes.

Our on-the-ground snow is melting fast with temps in the lower 40s.  Migratory birds are arriving, but it still seems a bit early with current conditions.

Hitting about 40 degrees for highs now and another 34 degrees at wake-up.  Still too much snow for the ATV.

It doesn't matter.

Who broke the trail, Pokey?  Being a leader is not all it's cracked up to be.

A fond memory comes to mind.

On snowshoes, I would hunt the elusive snowshoe hare in Montmorency County with a Ruger Mark II .22 pistol.  I could take my time among the cedars in the low ground and look for the ghosts sitting still; they were good at hiding in plain sight.  But, those big, black eyes gave them away at times.  Took my largest Booner hare with a head shot.  Didn't weight it, but I'd say it was close to 5 pounds.  Wish they were around here in the Lower Peninsula, but most are now gone except for the U.P.

Easy to get tripped-up in there but there was always a spooky thrill sneaking around below the wind.  The .410 Contender was a better option than a long gun in there, too.
