Headed out with Bullwinkle to the new hunting grounds for some bushytail action on opening day of small game season in Mid-Michigan.  Took my first fox squirrel, as we were heading down the trail together.  Bullwinkle wasn't fast enough.  Then, it happened again and I took #2 by holding over on a head shot. Two for two.

Turkeys were still roosting a 8am and were making a lot of noise flying away.

Also, found my first buck rub of the season and scared up a few whitetails.

Got a bit windy so we called it a morning.

Lots more to explore next time around.

Firearm:  Marlin Golden Original 39 A, Leupold 4x rimfire scope, Lapua Center X ammo, Pokeyjeeper's custom squirrel call, Burris Binocular

Works great, Pokey.  Hope to give it a better workout in the near future.

Nice work Glen. You should know better than to rush Bullwinkle, he seems to have that tendency to hurt himself, and somehow it don’t seem right that..........
OMG..... he wasn’t to slow Glen, he’s trying to save Rocky. It all makes sense now.

Never kick a dead coyote, especially one that ain't dead when your gun is still in the kitchen. Just ask your favorite Yooper what will happen. But if its a bobcat in a 330 coni and you think he's dead,,,,,Think again.. And we know you were wearing less than your PJ's on the last one you shot !

I even asked him if he wanted to shoot it - the first one.  He didn't see it yet, so I said, "Right there!"  All Bullwinkle did was to start fumbling around trying to get to his gun through all his gear strapped on.  So, I shot it.

He didn't spot the second one, either.  The reason I had to hold over was because it was so close!  Couple lessons there.

1 Keep your gun ready

2 Put the crosshairs high when up close

Bullwinkle went home unharmed and with all of his ammo.  Amazing!  And, he even helped me put some brush around a deer hunting shack and still didn't get hurt.  (I'll trim the stuff away some later.)

More fun to give it away.  That's what Pokey did.  Just keeping it in the "family."  Who knew that "worthless" boxelder could make a person smile.

Best of luck, Skip
