Western Coyotes have come East and mated with Eastern Timber Wolves (Red Wolves). Starting as 25 pounders, this eastern breeding produced fifty pound coyotes. The DNR cannot denign this finding, and actually have DNA proof of such findings. I've personally seen such animals in Michigan: reddish, huge, coyotes. True Timber Wolves reach 65 pounds, but with coyote inter-breeding 50 pounders are common. I'm actually more concerned with "Re-Established" Gray Wolf Hybrids introduced into Michigan Woods that run 150 pounds and kill Elk and Deer. Part Alaskan Malimutes, these are vicious creatures. Wolves are pack hunters, but hopefully coyotes will not adapt this deadly habit. Cliffy
One time we were traveling along an area that was above tree line, tundra type terrain and she said "black bear" then we reliazed that it was a wolf it was as big a bear. I know that wolf rugs are the size if our black bear up here when made into a rug.
