I wish I had that type of room here, but we actually get a lot of Canadian visitors in the winter. Good luck with the mamas and their little ones.
and try to stay warm.

Lol, well some places are warmer my friend . We are sitting at -28°C right now and a light NE wind . Had about a ft of snow in past 2 days and heifers have started calving ...if you were true friend you would come up and help check every 2 he's like we are ..lol.. but it will change ,better temps for the weekend. ..

We went from 75* yesterday afternoon to 12* this morning with a high of 30* forecasted for the day. I’d take some snow for the moisture. Finished last year 18 inches below normal rainfall and we’ve had .60 so far this year.

Ya, I bitch about the cold but if that's what I takes to get some moisture then bring it ...last fall we.had a major wet snowdump ,almost 18 in total that pretty well soaked up the ground . Any now should give us some run off for ponds and irrigation reservoirs.

Sorry no pic , caught a raven in same trap as last coyote...I didnt have tools to readjust the pan tension after the dog and get it heavy enough to keep birds out ,guess this proves that ..ahhh,the beauty of snares ..lol.

Well done young fella, and thanks for sharing your trapping adventures with PT.
It's my pleasure Rick ,you guys are all so upbeat with your comments and encouragement...life is too short to have or be a crap disturber in the midst of it . I've got 2 days left on my season before I pull the dog snares and traps and tho I didn't get as much as I would have liked it was all I could really afford to pursue with low fur prices and hi fuel costs..would have been nice to snag a wolf ,but that is a next season project. We are busy with heifers calving right now but if I can slip away for a couple hrs I'm gonna try and get back in there and pull a camera card and see what has been around. Locals haven't seen or heard anything for awhile but it will happen .

Last day of the dog season, traps and snares come out tomorrow .. been fun and I'm still learning, caught a few in traps and wish I could foothold the wolves as well but distance makes it impossible for me to check on a 24 hr interval as required by law ..watched a bunch of YouTube videos on it and it sure helps with the foothold part.

Thanx Don, I think if you aren't learning then you aren't working hard enough at it and ive been humbled enough times by coyotes that I take it personal . I've got a pretty good handle on the snare game know ,I think ....but foot traps have always intrigued me and I think there is less margin for error with them .

Thanx pokey, been a long day .It was my night to check , weather has warmed up alot so we do it every 3 hrs instead of 2. Found one nervous at 2 a.m. so checked at 3 and broke her water. I've found they calve quicker that way. At 4 she had tips of 2 front ft so I texted Jordan who was suppose to come on at 5 and told him to stay home and I would watch her since I was already up . She didn't progress much so I checked the rest at 6 and found nothing going on there and texted Jord to come give me a hand .. a simple pull, one front leg was tucked back slightly, Murphy knows what I'm talking about, and once it was straightened the calf practically fell out . In the time it took us to help her another calved outside by herself ..45 minutes tops since I had checked ..happens quick when all the stars are lined up..sleep will come quickly tonite .

I'm glad you enjoy the thread as much as I do bringing it to you. I try and give an accurate portrayal of my success AND failures and hope it brings back memories to all that have been able to enjoy the same experiences that I have . Still got some beaver 🦫 to catch for the golf course, maybe I will take you all along down there.

Yep, once you get them pushed back in and lined out correctly it’s a lot easier. I rode up on a nightmare a few days ago. Big beefmaster cross cow who was visibly upset had nothing but a tail hanging down below her tail. I knew it was backwards and had its feet up under itself. I recruited one of my daughters because 1 they have smaller arms and hands, 2 because they need the experience and 3 because I said so.
Took us about a hour but we were able to get the calf pulled, unfortunately it did not make it. The cow was part of a load we bought and she was some kind of ignorant and mean. Blessing in disguise because she’s going to town. Disposition means a lot to me. If they aren’t gentle they don’t stay.

Ya everyone says '" if you have livestock you are gonna have dead stock " , but that doesn't make it any easier to take . So for the disposition issue I have a one strike and you are out rule ,if there is any indication of an attitude on the cows part she is gone . I had 2 good friends on different ranches that got worked by cows last year ,one almost didn't make it ,and I don't need that here . Bet the kids were thrilled with the experience..lol.

Went out with a bang today pulling the last dozen snares close to home today. I picked up a beautiful fox 80 yds from the house a a pair of big raccoons in what I call the triangle..the triangle is a small patch of brush ,triangular shaped of course that is only about 6 ft down the lines..it has 3 opening for snares and in it I have caught 3 coyotes ,2 foxes and 2 skunks this year ...it has suffered some damage too. Let's just say that it's gonna some regrowth before next year to be able to set there next fall . I plan on wrapping some chicken wire around it before spring to let the grass and brush have some support to grow up thru and form a new " triangle ".

Also a pic of the last snare pulled and trap..raccoons are good shape and fix is surprisingly in perfect shape . raccoons and fox are all going to friends to tan .
