I had enough success to somewhat appease my appetite. Caught some beautiful dogs, got much needed exercise and learned more again about snaring..I sure wish they would cover the expenses, this would have been the year to really make some money , could have caught 200 for sure....but it's not always about the money, I was doing something I enjoy and got to spend the time with family and friends.
Next year I'll do it again, maybe spend more time on the wolves and perhaps do more calling ...can't get it out of my blood .

I've caught 79 trash pandas this year. I hope to save a few quail, turkey and pheasant eggs by doing so. Local buyer told me he wouldn't buy one unless they stretched 36". It takes a big one to do that. I've got 3 pair of eagles nesting on the ranch and I been feeding them a steady diet of raccoon. They have got used to me showing up and will fly down just as soon as I get back in the truck. I can see 2 little white fuzz balls in 2 of the nests and 1 in the other.

As long as they leave my calves alone I’m good with them. Several years ago we did a 30 day calving period on 500 heifers that we had in some traps around the house. The eagles showed up in big numbers and caused us a lot of problems. Talked to the Mr. Green Jeans and and another Conservation Officer and they told us to move our cattle out of the traps and spread them out over the ranch. I asked them if they were going to be here every day for about 20 hours every day and drive around and check heifers. They couldn’t quite grasp the whole process and weren’t much help.

Interesting to hear about the eagles Murphy, the odd guy here has had that problem as well ,Goldens were the troublemakers. If I remember they disappeared. Not from me ,I curse them for the damage on coyotes but that doesn't compare to calf loss. Like Rick says the grizz are the big problem here,so far and I say so far and I repeat so far ,they haven't bothered us .

Up where we had the wolf snares , wolves were bad last summer in the community pasture ,substantial loss on cattle from bears as well . I know a number of the problems were settled by the locals . One guy was riding and heard a commotion and 4 wolves broke out of the trees hanging on a yearling steer, guy had a hard time getting them clear enough of him to get a shot but did manage to down the largest ..$ 500 bounty check from the county was gladly paid to him .

.one coyote in the valley behind the house was singing a lonesome song this morning ..his buddy # 59 was in a snare today .The fox I caught on the cow carcass a couple weeks I had left draped over the cows neck ,this morning it has been dragged off so I reset the trap on there . Deb said a month ago that I would catch 60,may be right .

Or you could come here and enjoy our warm weather !

Sorry Cam. You could come too. I just spoke to a man and his wife from Alberta. As I was asking where specifically they were from in Alberta his phone rang. We were on a hike in the Whitetank Mountains.
