Yes to the nursing part though I too have never shot a vixen with cubs and I would guess the mite would move onto the cubs as well. She might not carry the cubs full term if her system was that low!?
First coyote i caught this winter , DEC . 19, had mange , not a hair .. Shot a couple after that here in Southern Alberta . The cold winters usually seem to thin them out , but this year we had very little of that. Not a pretty sight .
Caught 16 Reds in South-Eastern PA this year (2014/5). 2 had mange. Both were caught at same location. NW Iowa was good for no mange, but was told Eastern Nebraska had a problem this year.
Nebraska mange is finally ending its 3 year cycle as far a as coyotes are concerned. Mostly because of the weather. This winter alone the ground was wet enough to freeze fairly deep. You need that to kill the mites and fleas.
I cannot speak for fox in Nebraska.
Curiosity makes me ask how you know about NW Iowa and Eastern Nebraska as those are quite a trip from PA?
Got a coyote running around here with the worst case Ive seen in a long time . Hopeing to get him as he is hanging around the calf sheds and I want him out . I'll post a photo if it happens . No Jimmy he wont make the fence or the barn wall ..lol .
I'm hoping I shoot him first before he even gets to a trap , dont plan on touching him if dont have too..lol . If he's a chupacabra , he's a real skinny one .
