Hey guys! It's been awhile since I have been on here. I just got called today to do some nuisance trapping of beavers. It's on a small lake but they have raised the water level alot.. other people have tried to trap or shoot them with not much luck. Do you guys have any tips. I told the owner I wouldn't take any money until we see results. I will attach some pictures of the lodge ( there supposed to be another under water by the dock. They keep plugging the overflow pipe

An acreage owner contacted me a week ago wanting muskrats removed from his pond ...told him to get a permit as skrats are deemed as furbearers so he did. I went last evening and set 4 traps and shot 2 of the 3 that I saw . Not as many there as they think so I won't spend alot of time working on it .. also 3 dead geese floating in the pond ,don't know if it is Avian flu that is the culprit or the 17hmr of a neighbour that doesn't like the geese grazing on his new crop bordering the 10 acre pond .

I really like that otter mount, I'd like to get one done someday. So how do you find your jobs or do they find you?
I like that set! I've never really tried to trap muskrats before but now that I'm getting into water trapping maybe I will. What advice would you give on trapping muskrat as far as locating them and where to set. When I drive on the the backroads around here with these big fields I see these irrigation ditches, always thought maybe I'd find some in there. I'd say the .17 probably took care of them lol

The otter mount was my idea, I was.just gonna get it tanned and she said " you will never catch another, better get a mount "..the taxi agreed and it ended up costing me $1350...taxi suggested I bring a stick or branch from the area to use in the mount so I picked that one,he really did a nice job . I had no idea the otters were that big 47" long and 37 #.

As for finding damage control or execution jobs as I call em I,they just seem to find me . Been at the golf course since 98 and have taken 204 so far ..it doesn't end there, folks seem to need me when they need something dead or gone ,coyotes ,beaver ,muskrats ...hell I even have been called to put down the family dog or cat , cow with a broken leg and once a horse !! It's not a thing I relish doing but if it helps someone out and isn't a big deal I never charge ...except for the golf course . They started at $20 each for beaver and said it wasn't enough so I jumped it to $40.

Sitting at the skrat pond tonite, no victims or contestants thus far ,traps were empty so moved one ..owned by an elderly couple that went to school with my dad ..great people .

Another dead goose floating ...

Do you guys not have alot of otters up your way? That's a big guy! I've caught a 28# one and thought it was huge lol. That's kind of how this job started just fell into my lap. I did recently add my name to the conservation list of nuisance trappers so maybe I'll get some more. This one was and older Couple that wanted to pay me I said just wait to see if I can get the job done. I haven't had much action on my line since the otter. One of my 330s on the run by the lodge was knocked over and sprung. So I reset it and reinforced it. I hate reseting 330s with a headlamp. I haven't seen anything as far as them checking out my snares.
I'm out on the prairie, about 50 miles from the mountains ..North and West of me the mountains and woodlands hold a bunch of otters ,aren't legal to trap where I am . I've seen tracks a couple times but no sightings .

People don't realize how time consuming trapping can be , especially on trap smart critters ,which sounds like you have . In your case I think I would pull out and check back maybe once a week to see if there is new sign or maybe just make the odd random visit and sit for an evening ...if no damage happening where you can set ,that big marsh of yours is gonna be hard to catch em in ..good luck .

Why did they make it illegal to catch them? It sounds like the population is healthy enough to handle it at least in the woodlands.

It's hard to explain that to people, I don't think they would really understand unless they have tried it for themselves. I think I'm gonna finish up in a couple days ad pull out like you said and keep an eye on the place. Maybe let the pressure die down a bit.
It is legal in certain areas ,just not mine .

I finally got the big female! 42 pounds, caught her in two snares similar to the drawing you made. But instead of using a bait stick I put castor on top. Really messed up the whole area lol

Nice work patience paid off.
Well congratulations you earned that catch way to stick with it
Thank you guys for the support. I'm leaving g snares out for another day since it's not a far drive to make sure the job is done. I would definitely say this was a big test of my patience. I know thought about throwing the towel in a few times but I'm a little to stubborn for that lol.
