We use a few of the cheaper hand helds that sell for about 40 dollors. We always have one on charge. And the colder it is...the shorter life they have. Try to keep em warm

I'm using a 6-volt Wheat (miners) light. It will last 8-10 hours depending on how its operated and no problem in the cold. I run a 6' cord to the headlamp that I can sling over my shoulder for walking and its ready at eye level when needed. It ajusts from a wide beam to a narrow shooting/spotting beam. Theres a barrel clip on my M4 and thats where the headlamp stays when I'm on stand. Some guys don't like the extra weight of a 6-volt, but it shines wayyyyyyyyyyy out there. Besides---You gotta be tuff to live in the west lol.lol.

Do you know what the power, lumens/candle power it is and can they be bought from? What range do you get out of it, effective range at which it can be used and what do they say is the range? Is it made for close in, would a shotgun be better? Any in formation would be helpful.

I think the halogen bulbs are 80-90,000 candlepower. If you go to www.huntsmart.com they will send you a nite light catalog that has all kinds of goodies in it.
My wheat light is kinda old but with a scoped rifle I can kill yotes out at 200 yds with the narrow beam. If mounted on a shotgun, the beam can be adjusted to a width of 15' at about 20'. One of the guys I hunt with has a new headlamp with the brilliant blue/white spot and that s.o.b. is BRIGHT!.
Check out their catalog and you'll get more info.
