Thats what happens when the do-gooders get to the right people, you'll never hear what really transpired behind closed doors. I don't imagine the ranchers are to thrilled!!!

Your right hassell the ranchers will be peeved I have already read some chatter from them. There will undoubtedly be a few who take matters into their own hands, which doesn't seem smart but their whole lives depend on those cattle and elk and antelope.

A lady came by yesterday to pick raspberries and her son who just retired as a game warden has been dyeing traps etc. to go out east of me and catch wolves as they are still taking out rancher's calves, the area is just above the Montana- Canada border, he has taken three so far. When they had the wolf problem up at the north end of my province people had bumber stickers that said-- Eat Moose 25,000 Wolves Are, a friends brother who was a guide outfitter up north at the time was setting out poison for them as the wolves were taking out so many sheep and that was his main big game animal in his area, they caught him and it was a long court case, think he had killed 40 or 50 up to when he was caught.

Well if he had killed 40 or more on one ranch that goes to show you how many were there, on one ranch. That certainly however does seem like alot of wolves. To make an analogy, I wonder how a bank would handle someone stealing a percentage of our money in holding. Or what is parents told their kids..go ahead take what you want if I was the shop owner and kids kept on shop lifting merchandise how would could I stay in bussiness . In my oppionion, if " We the People " are going to incourage predators than we should stand ready to reimburse those having loses. I know with goverment leases there are certain liabillities that have to be accepted. However if I owned the property I think you should be able to protect it.

just my humble thoughts...

OH...if 25,000 wolves are eating moose....I am too. How knows if I lucky I might even shoot some of the competition....sorry for that comment. Not.

The guy that killed the 40 wolves was up north and he was a guide outfitter, when they forced them to stop the wolf kill that was being carried out they had shot around 2000 wolves and estimated it was 10% of the population!!!!

At 300.00 a hide that in it self would be a heck of an income to make in a year. Though if wolf taste like coyote dont figure it could compare to elk or moose.

You should be able to prove that the wolf meant to do you grievous bodily harm, I'm not kidding. And if you happen to be with your dog and the wolf attacks him you are SOL. We had two cases here in Az, that were just that way the wolf attacked on one of them I believe the guy said that the wolf broke off from his dog to get at his kids and him so his shooting was considered justified, the second case the guy just stuck to his story that his dog was being attacked. Our G&F and the interagency wolf recovery project investigated the shooting and said that the camper was not justified in killing the wolf and was therefore liable for the cost of the wolf(and possibly its present and future offspring). As I recall the wolves had just recently been released from their holding pens where they were fed by human caretakers.... Go figure. Sound like he was investigated by the forest SERVICE(if you recall the meaning from MR. Millers previous thread).

Same way in the U.P. Shoot a wolf Its 5 to 10 grand if you get caught. I know I won't stand there and watch a wolf kill my dog. She's like a kid to me. Many years ago had one in a coyote set, He popped the jaws on a #4 herters coil before I got close to him, lucky him. Back than we were surpose not to have any in the U.P. but we did. here's a pic of maggy --- opps

When I lived up north I had a large male wolf in a #3 double spring Victor and he just sat on his butt like a cat will do, made the mistake of using 22 longs, shot him between the eyes and he just sat there and looked at me, three more didn't make a difference either.

I would think that a certain federal judge just increased the price by a bit.

SHE SURE IS YD She doesn't pay any attention to them now but when she was a pup she did--I have a mounted bobcat and coyote that sit on the living room floor plus other critters around the house she don't bother either but if its alive WOW!! Shes quite a HUNTER- nothing gets through the yard without her knowing it. 2 winters ago a red fox tryed to cross the back yard. she let me know and the 17hmr did its little deed again. I take her to put and take pheasent farms. we don't have wild ones in my area. but she sure can hunt them. :focus:sorry That wolf in pic was released:clapclap:P.S. she's half brittany and half springer. We call her a Binger. She points and Flushes
