I see the U.S. federal fish and wildlife branch intervened in the Alaska State select Wolf kill. They only want to harvest 7 wolves on this Caribou Island Refuge site where the numbers of caribou are down to 400 animals and they are worried for the calf survival rates. Ifs it like here, when the Gov. gets involved with lge game and predators, the predators usually win?

A lot of wildlife has won here through the years. Mostly because the states have run things, it seems that when the feds get into the mix it takes them a while to get things right. It would seem that they a have gotten duck hunting in sync with their breeding habits(the ducks not the politicians) finally.

When enough people "CRY WOLF," then mayhaps something will snap at the Federal level. Thus far, tree and wolf huggers seem to dominate preventing wolffy intervention. These wolf lovers must be big city folks, and are certainly not rural farmers and ranchers who have to deal with these vicious canine livestock killers. Re-introducing Hybrid Gray Wolves into the lower forty-eight has to be the stupidest idea ever conceived. Elk and deer herds are suffering due to this assine mistake in judgment. Perhaps Feral Hogs will solve the wolf problem with piggie-like slashing tusks. A hundred-pound Gray Wolf against a three-hundred pound Feral Hog seems to favor the Pig. These are vile predators: all. As Wild Pigs work their way North, wolves will soon see human hunters and pig hunters hot on their trail. Of what benefit are Hybrid Gray Wolves anyway? Cliffy

As is usually the case, at least up here, any politician's that are swayed by the do gooders will not change things unless something personally happens to them, eg.-- they own property where they have lost animals from wolves etc., a loved one was attacked or killed by a criminal and on and on.

The reason (at least in my mind)((I know)) that politicians listen to thetreehuggers is that they are the ones making noise, so to speak, they hound and write letters to the politicians...they protest so it seems like there are a lot of them to the politicians... Oh and one more thing they do They VOTE... politicians o not care about the wolves or weather we all have health care they care about being reelected... we need to speak our minds...oh and VOTE!! I will not make any political statements...I will not make any political statements...I will not make any political statements...I will not make any political statements..I will not make any political statements....

Just got off the phone with a guy from AK. He told me in unit 20 they are starting to treat the wolf like a yote. Non-res tag $25.00. Hmm....I am going to do some calling if I hear a howl. The black bear from what I am told kills off a very high percentage of moose calves. I was told up to 70 % are taked by blacks...add the wolf and that is a lot of yearlings killed off.

Might have a mixed bag moose hunt in September.

Pretty tough to be able to hear a wolf howl, especially if they know your around, I've heard them sitting around a camp fire at night, never heard them during the day even in all the years I was up north, but there around for sure, you should see all the moose kills when the first ice comes on the lakes!!

That is what I was meaning...around the camp fire hearing the howlinig or at night. Getting a location or dirrection of the sound and at first light head off that dirrection.

I can imagine the calf / yearling kills. Never thought about it much..but those wolf have to live some how.

Wolves will survive no matter how many deer-elk-moose they kill, until ungulates are on the brink of extinction, then pets become THE WOLF MENU exclusively with small children thrown-in as dessert. We need an open season on wolves NOW, not too late when we're up to our armpits in WOLVES. Cliffy

Guess who is going to sit on a gut pile after I shoot my moose....yep me.

Guess who is going to run if a grizz shows up....you might see me running past your window.

You need to follow the standard bear hunting procedure. Always take someone slower than you.

If you are worried that he is taking you as the "bait" dab a little bacon grease on the bottom of his boots every morning. Bacon grease would be a great equalizer.

"Wolves vs Hogs" sounds similiar to "Predators vs Aliens." In both cases, HUMANS get stuck in the middle. Thank you, Politicians. Someday SOON people will finger the dirty end of the stick. I hope Michigan awakens REALLY soon. Cliffy

You are soo right Cliffy !

I like your anaology ! Michigan just like most places use the reaction and what will the majority think way of dealing with situations. Being proactive and doing what makes sense is tooo much risk...gosh we might have to make a discission

Though the topic here is wolves, the last few days on the net they were talking about the high number of bear attacks this year, especially the Yellowstone Park area. Blaming it on not enough pine cones this year as this is what the Grizzlies need to fatten up before winter, Yes this is part of their diet and saying that there will be many more encounters with hunters and back-country hikers and possible deaths? Remember they reintroduced the Wolves to that area, they must think we are stupid or gullible to believe this story? If the Bears are down this low from the Alpine and looking for food its because the WOLVES have eaten all the game in the back-country???
