There are 2 types of mange, Demodectic mange is not generally contagious to people, other animals, or even other dogs . Demodectic mange in dogs is caused by a sensitivity to and overpopulation of them. The dog's immune system is unable to keep the mites in check.

Been getting alot of reports on the mange with both fox and coyote by the neighbors accounts in my area. I'm just south of Lansing Michigan. I haven't personally seen any with it but the wife has.

I know a guy that reported catching 59 yotes earlier this season before the first of the year. All these were taken west of Ann Arbor. He never report one having mange.

Wow,that's impressive. I've shot 3 with beautiful fur right around here. The wife has seen 2 different yotes in stages of mange and next door neighbor shot a fox with almost no hair on it. Don't know what's going on around here but hopefully goes away soon. Heck of a way to die too.

I don't see mange out here, but our animals probably don't come in contact with others the way yours do back east.

ha ha...but he is right... the only critter I shot that had mange was a red fox and his tail was gone of fur except the tip, body was perfect.

Don it may be the wetter weather that promotes mange. Mites being the cause may like moist conditions ? Just a thought.

Moisture may indeed have something to do with it, proximity to other wildlife, coyotes included also.

Yes or perhaps certain birds also ?

Whatever the cause it is shame to see an animal with it.
