What sort of calibre and bullet combo do you recommend for a bear? ..... and come to that, what sort of range is average for a bear hunt?

I don't know but would guess you'd get quite a matressing effect on a bear......

Hey Thanks Cur Dog !!

I met couple great bear hunters from Texas last year. Fantastic people...Texan adore Black Bear Hunting !!

Good question Shakari !!

To make a long story short, there's a misconception about bear hunting(Black Bear). Many hunters seems to overkill the power they need. I will stay real general but the firearms hunters used for deer hunting(to make a comparison) will do the job easily.

Our advice...take that extra breath, control your emotion, ''real difficult'', lot and lot of hunters miss because of that !!

It is of course a matter of preference and as many will say bullet placement bullet placement bullet placement.

The range distance can be different, but most Outfitters will set their stands between 12 to 25 yd. Of course, you can set longer distance but the experience will not be the same. When a bear appear at that distance goosebumps and adrenaline rush guarantee !!
