.223 rifle with 16" barrel shoots two types of ammo the same size group. Is there reason to go with one over the other.

Hornady 55 grain 3240 fps
Fiocchi 50 grain 3300 fps

This is for Coyotes!! Which would you use and why?

I'd see which one cost less and go with it. Shouldn't see much diference on a shot Coyote.... that sucker will run off the same either way! 😂 Those things are tough critters with a heck of a will to live. Keep shooting til it doesn't move!

I've shot the F-50gr v-max on coyotes at range and never had a problem with them hit'in the dirt right there.

Most of the yotes I kill are between 20 to 80 feet so I find a 55gr HP saves more fur at that distance.

I use the 55 gr hornady v-max. I cant say if there better or not, but they work for me. And they fly extremely close to my target loads out of my gun, so I can practice with that gun without moving my sights.

Is the Fiocchi  a red tipped bullet ?  If so it is likely a V-Max also,so the only difference is 5gr of weight.

I'm not a V-Max fan really but if these are factory loads your choices are rather slim as to bullets. That said, if they shoot the same group, I'd go with the cheaper of the two.

40, 50, 55 all over penetrate. Whichever one shoots better in your gun.

Try Nosler if you reload, quartering to or fro, broadside or even head on, I've never had an exit with their 6mm bullets, I can't speak for a Texas heart shot as I've never encountered one running straight away. I can only assume the 224's would react the same. I've only shot two with either of my AR's and had no exits but that isn't a very large sample.

UThowler, it is a 1-7 twist. You would think it would like heavier stuff but 75 grain opened up to about 3" group. The 50 and 55 shot about .75" made no sense to me?

A 52 gr Amax will if not not loaded overly hot . I load my 22-250 {3500 fps} with them and at 100 yds I rarely get a pass thru , if it is is just a tiny fragment .

I'VE always liked the 45 hollow points in mine. or 55 gr soft point.

now an then one may run off but not often. and when they do, it's generally cause I failed, not the bullet.
