I'm making a set of home made shooting sticks right now out of 2 fiber glass rods that are perfect. And I painted them black and dark green camo. They look really good. One question I thought I'd ask to those who have made them though... What is your suggestions on what to use for the hinge on them? Iv seen things from castration rings, to para cord. And idk what is best

Strips of an old inner tube works great and is what alot of the African guides use on their shooting sticks

I would go with the rubber inertube. If you put it on tight it wont slide around when you dont want it to and if you go to a tire shop they usually give away tubes with holes in them for free. We get them all the time to use for rubber on our saddle horns for roping. Not sure about the area you hunt but putting a couple short nails on the bottom of my sticks was one of the best things I did for my sticks. keeps them from sliding around on ya when setting up on ice or really hard ground.

How would you out this inner tube on the sticks? Cut it and strips and just slide it on there or what?

I use castration bands on mine but I get sick of them dry rotting. Going to use paracord on the next set...

I've used castration bands, inner tube and paracord. They all worked for a while, but the paracord worked better and lasted longer for me.

Used the rubber tubing for peep sights off my bow , available any archery store . Made my stix from 2 used arrows , put blunts on top ends and field points in the inserts on the bottom end to keep from slipping .

haha sounds like the para cord is a better option than the rubber.

If you use the inner tube just cut strips around 1/2" or 3/4" and wrap fairly tight around where you want the fork to be you can also do a figure eight if you want. But I still think a bolt and nut and then stake them is the best way, you never have to mess with them again. When I mentioned the inner tube it was just to be another method for you to choose from.

I have a set I made out of two wooden broomsticks with a screw run through the both of them about 4 inches from the top then painted black and brown. I have taken countless deer with them and they cost me like 10 bucks for the broomsticks at the hardware store. never leave home without them.

Not sure what diameter your stix are but the ones I made out of wooden dowels, I just ran a small bolt through with washers in between.
