This year with lots of snow the bears for the most part have been latter coming out. They are around town and one guy got bit a couple of times by a grizz, Where I hunt out in Prince William Sound there is lots of snow left. One of my coworkers said there is about 6-7 ft. left on the shore in some of the areas that clear out the earliest. My plan is for the last week of the season, it closes June 10th. Of the last 5 yrs. last year was the first time I was too late and got lucky and had one walk by as we were returning to the boat. It takes about 5.5 hrs. to make it out to the spot where we hunt, that is from Whittier.

You said one guy got bit by a grizz in town, you have them hanging around towns already. A guy I know that lives out of town just lost a few sheep last weekend, the warden's trapped it then put it down for some reason rather then relocating!!!!

They wonder through town, Eagle River on a regular basis. Eagle River is part of the Anchorage area and there are mountains all along the edge of town. Unless there is a problem bear they are left alone. Putting your trash for pick up the night before can get you a ticket if there are any bears that get into it. The moose have learned that trash can hold good food too. Fish and Game have to put down several black and maybe brown bear a year due to people and there dog food and trash left out. I know of one guy we were taking fishing and he was getting an early start to come down to the boat and opened the garage door, went in to get the kids that were mostly asleep and had a black bear in the garage eating the bird feed. There was no problems that happened all was well.
