Did a little bow fishing tonight. Second time ever. Went out and pushed around in a small boat with a buddy here. Turned out to be a good evening on the water. Had a great time.

I shot the small one at a full run and one other. Ben shot the other 3. Hopefully we'll get out again soon.

From my reading, Carp are not native to the US. In the early 1800s the government imported them and in the 1830s tried to promote them as a food source.

They are an invasive species and destroy local habitat for native species of fish. I've just started but plan on shooting as many as I can find. Kinda like coyotes, there is little chance of actually decimating their numbers by hunting.

It sure is some fun with lots of shooting opportunities. My neck and shoulders are a little stiff this morning :hot:

Nice shooting FB. Here's recipe for carp:

Items needed: small to medium carp, lemon pepper, garlic powder, sliced onion, cedar shake shingle

Gut and descale the fish
Remove head
Place fish on shingle
Season fish with lemmon pepper, garlic powder and several slices of onion
place the fish on the shingle directly in the middle oven rack and bake for one hour at 250 degrees.

Remove fish/shingle after one hour
Remove fish from shingle and place fish in garbage can

Eat the shingle

Actually, there is a place in Omaha, NE that serves some of the best deep fried carp I've ever eaten.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I use to bow fish every spring for carp all the time as a kid. I would shoot them by the dozen in the spawning season. I would bring them home and my pops would bury them in the flower beds around the cottage. Work has been in the way for the past 10 years. My new job will allow me to get out there fishing again. And Bow fishing!

Great shooting Fred! You will get addicted to this just like coyote hunting for sure. Tons of fun isn't it?

I recently got into bowfishing. Its a lot of fun. I made a homemade rig that I have taken a few carp with. Yesterday I ordered the AMS bowfishing kit and spent today getting my boat ready for the water. Can't wait to get out there!

Nice job once again Fred. Glad you and Ben finally got out. That's one sport that I always enjoyed every year growing up. Couldn't wait for spawning season to arrive. Like you said, we'll never even put a dent in their population. Here they're just a pest tearing up gamefish spawning areas. They make the best fertilizer I've ever used though.

HAHAHAHAHH! I love it. I have yet to eat carp. They go straight to the garden.

Grab the bow Hassell. Tis the season right now. It beats going to the big orange box and buying bags!

For a ton I'd be using a net, no spare time, there is not any bought fertilizer in my garden and or stolen.
