Just wondering if collecting vintage calls is actually a hobby? I know guys collect vintage duck decoys, fishing lures, firearms, knives ect. But I've never heard of some one that was a diehard vintage call collector......anyone on here collect them???

I'd be interested in purchasing one for my collection and to use.

Im thinking they collect the ones that never really worked that good but LOOKED good !! So that would make a collector someone who cant call --no matter what they use!!

So are there guys out there at auctions bidding $10000-15000 for some rare 1917 call, like they do for duck decoys??

I have not heard of any and I doubt it but I suppose anything could happen at an auction. I have seen some stuff I would not pay a dollar for sell for thousands. Not predator calls though.

One other thought. Making calls is fun. The THO website I linked is a great resource for learning to make them. Time consuming and addicting but fun and rewarding.

Yes, game calls are collected by many folks. Duck calls seem to be the most highly sought. I've seen duck calls that sold for over $3000.00. I picked up two unmarked duck calls in an Ohio antique mall about 15 years ago for $10 each. After I identified them about 5 years later I sold them on eBay for over $500 each. The one call I had been carrying on a lanyard on all my duck hunting trips the entire 5 years that I owned it.

Fishing lures....thats another story.

small collection, between new and old calls, last count was 21. I'm locating more old/vintage calls now. I'll get things together and post another picture. I'm selling off NASCAR collectables and using part of that money for call collecting.

NASCAR collection includes 345 die cast cars and trucks(transports) and somewhere between 38,000 and 40,000 cards(most are in complete sets).

Wow Mike you're quite the diehard ! Nothing wrong with that at all. Used to be a huge NASCAR fan until we bought our farm and I never seem to have time to sit and watch the race. Imagine that ! As far as calls I have several old Lohman's, P.S. Olts and a few handmade ones from ? that have been handed down to me from guys that took me along when I was younger. I too use the ones I want to put on the shelf. As far as value it's all in the eye of the beholder. I've seen turkey calls never intended for the field go for 15,000.00 at auction. Of course they were works of art and supporting a good cause so that may have helped. I love old things and lots of vintage and antique lures, decoys and such. I think it's called hoarding...LOL

FIGHT !!!!

Thanks Tom.Like you, I no longer follow the sport like I did. It's another sport that's lost a lot by getting "politically correct". I stopped collecting when they dropped Winston. The Winston Cup and the drivers from then had a passion for the sport that doesn't exist now.

If your ever interested in selling any of your old calls, let me know. I'm going to try and double the number of vintages calls I have by the end of this summer.

Yup! Nationwide Series now. Something about beer and cigarettes didn't represent the family image. I would be willing to bet there's more beer sold during the Daytona 500 than during a Super Bowl.

LMAO!!! Now here's a perfect example of a typical thread on PT.......if someone started reading this thread half way through......they'd never guess that it was about collecting vintage calls. I guess that's what I get when I join a site with a bunch of fellow senile old men!!LOL I fully expect this thread to morph into "what kind of snake is this"!!!LOL
