So tell me all you bear hunting afficiandos, is this a grizz or black bear ? Shell is from a 300 win.mag . overall length 3.47" .. Track is in about an inch of mud , noclaws out ahead of it , some little tiny pin pricks close to toes that we are asuming are claws . Been back a couple times and more tracks all the same , however found one set that are definitely grizz .. No baiting allowed here and I'm afraid a trail cam would disappear with all the human traffic.. I think he's black .

Hard to see but looks like a high toe arc. So black is my guess.

Find the scat..if it smells like pepper and has bells in it, it's definitly a grizz.

Black.

Scat with pepper smell ? could be from a guy in the rough part of town !! Don't think he's had a pedicure either , claws maybe short from all the running he does from his arthritic hump shouldered cousins ..lol. We've been back 4 four times and always see fresh tracks , one of these days ... :hunter:

Looks like black bear tracks to me. However I'm not in grizzly country so I can't say for sure.

Yes I saw that one , at least someone has a sense of humor . Be glad you have none of the " ENDANGERED BEARS " around.. a real pain to live with . I live on the prairie 45 miles from the nearest mountain and we have bears in our area all summer long . Check out" Alberta Grizzly herd " on you tube .. video taken 10 miles from my door , fish and wildlife say there is a shortage ?

The mud distrots the track and it could be either but, not having the claw marks I would say black. Maybe a small grizz.

UPDATE .. Well I think the bear in question was taken last Friday , I saw photos of an over sized chocolate colored black bear that would have fit nicely in those foot prints .. I don't have permission to post but believe me he is a screamer . The 2 young guys that got him watched him for an hour to make sure he wasn't a grizz before pulling the trigger . Squares a good strong 7 foot , and with the blunt nose on him I see why they were cautious . Taken within 600 yds of the last tracks I saw .

If it follows you up the tree...it's a black bear....if it knocks the tree over....it's a griz.

What if it follows you up the tree and then the tree falls over? Is it a Panda?
