It was about 9am 12winds, called with the spit fire set in front wind in face. (using jack rabbit havent used it in awhile figured it was time) I was sitting on a slight hill facing a depression that goes for miles the eye can see. I didnt watch my downwind because truck was back there and I figured they were not comming that way anyway, and if they did the truck would ruined it anyway (why worry so much just get out there and call is my thoughts). I played the call low 4min, medium 4 min, then high (#4 volume for the spit fire) for less than 1 min, back to med, then low. Im about ready to quit so before i get up i scan the area with the scope, (forgot the binos) I see two dogs out 500 or more yards looking around. Crap im fumbling for the remote, i turn it back to medium, these dogs could hear it at medium! They start running in , they are so far out i would have time to pop a soda soda can and sip a few drinks before they get to me. They split up at about the 200 yrd line and the right one i dont see the left one i have my eye on. Then all the sudden miss lefty is at me within 100 yrds. I shift over rifle get ready and start barking at her. She dont stop, so bam! Front chest shot one roll, no movement. The other is now in my visible to me and running away. Instead of doing pup distress like i should have (with the hand call i had ready available for this very situation) i try and take a shot at it running.....and thats why you dont see a picture of two coyotes.

I just want to say thanks to all you members here, your tips continue to make me a better hunter. I use tips from experienced to inexperienced hunters, and i tell ya it makes a difference. I also love to share them if you havent noticed.

Thought i would share some pics of some of the places i hunt, the old house is ofcourse abandoned but has plenty of coyotes and jacks around all the time. Thier is one educated coyote near that house that i have plans for, but im waiting for a good time.

Thanks Don, is it this open where you hunt? Or do you have more trees and cover? I like hunting coyotes in the open, but i miss trees or bushes to hide in. I guess they would have the same advantage as i would. The two trees you see in the pic is the only one in that area and its dead lol

Im a little pissed at the country right now

Way to go SS! I actually prefer that country that you hunt in. I've hunted the thick stuff and there is just something about having good visibility that cannot be beat!

Kudos SS.

Congrats SS! I wish I had open area to hunt like that. I generally set up in clearing in the forest but just got permission from a farmer to hunt his fields so that's about to change. Nice lookin gun too by the way.

Hunted it once and had two packs yippin and howlin but none would commit. I wasn't real familiar with the property yet so I stuck to the edge until I get a better idea of the layout and where they are at. I was pretty excited about hearing the two packs, got me fired up for sure!

I'm sure its just a matter of time. There is enough land there so no matter which direction the wind is out of I can set up. Now where or not I can get set up close to them may be a dirrferent story. We will see after some scouting.
