Should there be an introduction forum for new members and their first post? Instead of interrupting a thread half way thought with 6 or 7 welcomes to a new member, should all new members first posts be a quick hello, this is who I am and what I like to do in a dedicated forum?

Does the site generate a "welcome email" ? Perhaps a link to that forum in that email with note to introduce yourself.

I think a lot of people lurk and then decide to post when something hits a spot with them, I'll also say that all the
" welcomes" ,although they seem lengthy at times, seperates us from a lot of sites. I think it makes people feel welcome and valued.

I know I'm not "Prostaff" but I've been here long enough to know that making everything so formal is not what this site is about. I don't mind someone jumping in at all. Like Don said, many times the topic of the moment is what gets people posting and that's fine with me. As far as the welcomes go. Who cares ? I've been on sites where if you're a newbie, you don't even get a hello from anyone. I don't want anyone thinking I'm starting a #$%^*&*(( contest here. But I believe that if it works here, why fix it ? This is my go to site and always will be. You guys are my friends and if it wasn't for your friendly welcomes and sharing knowledge and stories with me personally I wouldn't have hung out as long. I say let things be and continue having fun with the site. Just my .02 guys.

Mmm either way works for me --but along the lines of what don said--make it so if the system recognizes a new member have it automatically redirect them to the introduce yourselves topic/forum regardless of what topic/forum that initially drew a response from them. And have a line explaining that to them also to have them a go back feature so they can THEN leave a response to the original article without all the other periphery that accompanies the usual first time post as such. Whew Im getting finger tied here.

The stalking site that I'm a member of has such a forum and your first post is to say hello and a little bit about yourself. It works to perfection. When I joined there I made my first post and then came back later to see 10 to 15 reply's welcoming me to the site it was great and made me feel great.Thats what sets that site apart from any other UK site and why its the only one I'm a member of. I really don't see why we couldn't have the same sort of thing here for new members to be made to feel right at home straight of the bat. If you notice some new members start a thread saying hello anyway so why not give them a forum to do it in.

We have the new members introduce yourself thread in the members cabin forum. Perhaps that thread could be a Forum of it's own at the top of the homepage along with the redirect link on the welcoming email ? I guess I don't think you should HAVE to introduce yourself...some people don't know what to say and may just want to lurk (and send PM's to an incredibly handsome as well as highly prolific member((you know who you are) until something or someone spurs them to make a post.

There was no such thread when I joined and had there been a forum suggesting an introduction I think I would have used it.

Yes Matt as you have now figured out it is, and always has been my goal. I'm sorry if you misread my post or mistook my intentions. That seems to be a theme lately.. I know you are stressed over the move and all Matt, but please don't take it out here on PT.

The mistake was of not seeing that thread when I joined nothing to do with this thread and I'm not taking anything out on here at all.

Hey guys,

We took care of this one:

http://www.predatort...ers-start-here/

I am going to work on some wording and encourage new members to post a new intro topic in that forum.

Thanks!

Cool I saw the forum, looks good. Does the site generate a "welcome" email ?
