Hello my name is Casey.

Since dating my girlfriend now for 7 months I have become friends with her two twin brothers and her dad. They coyote hunt a lot, they are skilled with a rifle. I have a gun my dad passed down to me, 243 Win, Remington Model 700. I have my gf's dad sighting it in for me and him to use. It was a real nice day so I took a walk with her today and we spooked a big Yote!!!! This brute of a yote had to be at least 60lbs or bigger. It wasn't even nervous around us. It was probably 60 yrds away and it walked confidently between a herd of cattle, with calves. As he got farther away from us, he still looked big. I would like to know from more experts on coyote hunting, what everyone uses as hand held calls and electronic calls? My dad has killed a few coyotes with the o'l trusty 243, but I have not. When it was sighted in back in the day, we were hitting milk jugs out to 230yrds-250yrds.... Willing to learn!!!

In the county where my girlfriend lives, my mother was raised on a farm, so I can hunt on my family's farm. Well over 4,000 acres of wood lots and agricultral land. I am a avid rabbit hunter and beagler who goes to field trials. I have had some close encounters with coyotes coming into my pack of beagles, but haven't had any of my dogs seriously hurt or killed. I will inheriate 80 acres of some of the land in the future.

Thanks for any help!!!

If your gf's family is hunting yotes, go with them. They may be able to teach you a thing or two.

As far as calls go, there are some very good posts on this site about hand calls as well as e calls. I don't think there is a call out there that at least one of the members doesn't own. So just ask what you are looking for in a call and we will help you out.

Before long you'll be buying guns and calls and all kinds of stuff!

Good luck and welcome to PT!

For a store bought hand call I'd go with a syco tweety. We have a few members here that make hand calls, if they don't chime in you can PM me for a list. They are the same or cheaper than store bought and you have something unique. Both are proven performers. As for electronic callers I'll first ask what your budget is. You can go from $50- 600 depending on the money you have and the quality you want.

To be honest, I'd rather call them in by hand calls!

Let me know if you want that list.

One word of caution to you though. If you are hunting with her father and brothers be extra nice to her. Remember you are out in the middle of no-where and they have guns !!

This may lead to a break up due to Casey spending more time with them than her! LOL

But hey, you just can't replace good hunting partners!
