Took this crazy squirrel today while out hunting. Had been seeing them running around the area I was in and had never seen anything like it before so I thought i'd give one a shot.

Weirdest little thing i've ever seen. When I first saw one, I thought it was a fox!

Season is open on them right now. I checked. :)

Don't think i'll be eating the nasty little thing though. He might end up on the wall... in a bobcat's mouth. :)

I think you should take all those critters out to Miss Kim as she'll cook you up a fancy dinner, make sure Cat gets some pictures though.

Ground squirrels out here are little tiny things, although they do make challenging targets about the size of a chipmunk. Aberts hang out in the ponderosa pine forests usually about 5000 ft up to tree line. Don't shoot the squirrel if he's in a tree just hit the tree next to him, we always called it "barking" them as the bark flying off the tree kills them, well that and the fall. No bullet holes to sew up that way.

Funny thing, I smoked him with the 223 while he was in a tree. He hung on for about a minute before he just fell right off. It was rather humorous. :)

I'm not sure that you can count that one as a kill, it rather sounds like a suicide to me. LOL

If you looked look a squirrel that cut a deal with the devil himself you might consider suicide too!

Those ears do kind of look eerie (pun intended). Ours are more silver grey, that black is pretty cool though.

I have seen black squirrels in the area around Dover Ohio, that is where my inlaws live, they say that they were brought in by Germans years ago and when you drive through town they are everywhere and not too many Fox squirrels any more in that area. The ratio change is much different than it was 25 years ago, many more of the black ones.

Up here in Michigan there are many black squirrels, they are however a version of the grey squirrel. Chris's has those tufts on his ears common to the Rockies region.
