Here was our hide out out. A nice perch in the end of a hedge from over looking lots of holes.

Came across this on the way out... We noticed vultures in a tree milling about. When leaving he found this.... Looks like it met an unfortunate demise this afternoon and vultures pulled some up the tree...

I went out Saturday evening and this afternoon for some chucking. The alfalfa and hey are knee high. We did find some fields that were being cut so we hunted those after the work was finished. We sat for several hours on each field and saw no chucks!

As I have never hunted a field the same day it was cut it leaves me wondering.... Do the chucks skip that day and stay in the hole?

Thoughts and prayers for tornado victims in OK

This is a great online community and I wanted to ask for everyones thoughts and/or prayers for the victims of the F4-F5 tornado that just went through Oklahoma City about 30 minutes ago. It was a huge tornado and at one point it was 2 miles wide. Thousands of homes, buildings, and even schools have been completely destroyed. Sadly, lives have been lost. It's especially hard to see the elementary schools completely destroyed. Luckily, it missed my parents and grandmothers home by a mile. It missed my wife's office by 3 miles. Unfortunately, a lot of people were not as lucky.

It's tornado season in OK and I haven't been online much the past couple days because weather here has been nuts. Last night, my pregnant wife and I spent part of the evening in our underground storm shelter. We had a storm go directly over us only to turn into a tornado about a mile after passing over us. Fortunately, the weather crews in OKC are very knowledgeable when it comes to tornado's and we generally get enough notice to take shelter. But, to survive tornados of this size, you must be underground. It will clean a home completely off the foundation.

Anyway, my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this storm.

CALLS for a CAUSE # 6 Final Auction

Ok, this is going to be the final set of calls. I want to thank everyone for their participation in viewing and bidding on these calls. I also want to thank and apologize to all the other call makers for allowing me to kinda steel the Predator Calls Forum Section for these past few weeks. I have quite a story to tell to begin with.

This is a set of 4 Bocote (Mexican) calls. There is 2 closed reed calls(1mid range and 1 long range), 1 open reed and 1 proto type call that I believe is going to be a hot item as it is so different sounding than anything i have ever used. It is capable of 4 different sounds out from the same call but is a closed reed call. Currently Itzy is the only other person to have this call so maybe he will chime in at some point. All 4 calls are turned out of the same piece of wood. (see photo of alignment).

This has been a really neat journey for me. When I found out that it was ok for me to do I was really great full to be able to do this. I had a lot of calls made and it was only a matter of choosing which ones it would be. The first Saturday after the auction started I woke up from a dream with 4 calls in my mine and how they looked and what they would be shaped. Then Stonegod made a comment

Yeah.....yeah.....yeah.....we read that it was one of your first calls and one of your personal favorites......and you use to sleep with it under your pillow and dream of future calls to be made........now go find some dang road kill deer and make some frigging sausage!!!!LOL

Life is tough......it's even tougher if you're stupid!

I found this to be a little indication i was on the right path.

The first call I turned happen to be the proto call. I was not at all impressed with the wood looks because it seemed extremely dry and dull looking. It did not have the really yellowish and black grains that I attributed to Bocote wood. I went ahead and decided to turn the rest of the calls. Before I new it I had turned all the calls in just a couple hours from start to finish which is how long it usually takes me on just a single call.

I really didn't see anything very special in these calls until I was doing the finishing sanding when I started realizing these were very special calls. I will go into more detail about each call in a little bit. I called Bar-d and asked it it was all right if I did something special to these calls to associate these calls with the http://josephthomasfoundation.org/. So I had all 4 calls laser-ed with the initials JTF (see pictures tomorrow) I didnt think anybody would mind. I will say I had them laser ed by someone who had never done "them duck dynasty type calls" They are not perfect but then them coyotes aint never gonna see them before you at least shoot at um!

These 3 pictures are as vague as i could make them. I will be posting better pictures once I get to work tomorrow and can down load them from my camera. These pictures are from my cell phone and are plain. It will be tomorrow evening before I can post and write about them.

Again all moneys will go to the http://josephthomasfoundation.org/ and help those that endure more than most of us will ever know.

This auction is going to run till next Sunday the 26th of May and end @ 9:00 pm CST. I thought this would allow everyone to raid couches, trucks .Clothes dryers and piggy banks to finish this auction off.

Seeing the Navy pin in Ed's Memorial Day Calls post gave me a thought, (ya I know that doesn't happen very often) I would like to get some bids from the call makes here for a set of five calls dedicated to the five Military Branches. Old fart or young whipper snapper?

Just wondering who on here is over 50 and who's under 50.....seems to be more old farts on here than the average site? As for me......well, I'm a old fart....at 55 pushing 56 real hard!!

This is the first of hopefully many of this year. Sense I will be attending my youngest kids wedding this summer back in Mi. I think it will be getting made into a new dress belt for me. It's just too nice a skin to cut up and too small for a belt for most folks any way, so I get this one. Both soaks are done now (salt/borax, and water/glycerine) all I have to do for now, is wait for it to dry. It measured 37" without the head, with 8 pairs of rattles. Its a bit small, but I really liked the looks of it, and you only get so long to decide if you want it or not, the coloring and definition of the diamonds was enough to make me want it.

Things I Gotta Put Up With **

I gotta put up with -20* weather, nasty blizzards and frozen bales of hay through the winter up here in the high country--- but spring time really makes me love this country.

Went over to the lake (15 miles away) to do a bit of dinner fish'in.

Yep--- I had to put up with look'in at the view of the Sandy's across a dead calm water, with just me--- my pole--- and a couple of brews.lol. Only caught one little 14" trout and fried him up on the gravel bar. It was worth the trip.

P.S.--- I had to pull his tail a bit to get him to 14" lol.

I do 65% of my call'in/trapp'in in these mountains.
