Revamp on the 5.56 build

Posted by bar-d, 12 August 2011 - * * * * * · 114 views

I really like the 5.56 I built.

Attached Image: gun1..jpg

Only problem, I took it hog hunting and shot 2 hogs. Dropped the first in his tracks, he stayed down. Dropped the second but he got up and hobbled off into the pasture. I followed him in, near dark, and after skulking around through the weeds with the rifle at the ready, I swear that...

6.8 Remington SPC

Posted by bar-d, 22 August 2010 - - - - - - · 28 views

Got all the parts in and have completed the build. The upper is a Double Star SPC ll 16" 1:10 HBAR with a National Match FF Handguard and A2 flash hider. Pinned it to the Spike's Tactical Lower I got from Chris Miller. (Thanks again Chris). Did not buy any factory ammo so I am in the process of working up some loads with new SSA brass. When I get to shoot...

I Told Them So!

Posted by bar-d, 02 June 2010 - - - - - - · 14 views

After sending first the bolt and then the entire upper back to Rguns that they kept for a total of 7 1/2 weeks, I took it upon myself to fix what I told them was wrong to begin with. I installed the extractor out of a friend's Bushmaster and went shooting. Not ONE extraction problem using reloads and the Factory Federal 50 gr. HP that it had never...

Finally Back Together

Posted by bar-d, 28 May 2010 - - - - - - · 18 views

I got the AR back together. I still have a few issues that I think I can resolve with a little creative reloading but here it is with the scope mounted light I built for it.

AR So Far

Well shoot! Got the upper back today and still won't extract. Installed a heavier extractor spring and o-ring. Same thing. The guy from Rguns told me it worked fine for him. All I can think of now is to install a heavier buffer spring and buffer to slow down the cycle rate on the action. MO MONEY, MO MONEY, MO MONEY!

AR So Far

Well, after 3 weeks and a half dozen phone calls, I finally got my bolt back. The exact same bolt I sent off for replacement. 4 more phone calls and now they want me to send the complete upper back to them so they can check it out as a whole. Unless they mate it up to a lower and fire it, they will not find the problem. Personally, I think it is a simple...

AR So Far

Posted by bar-d, 08 April 2010 - - - - - - · 23 views

I finally got to shoot my new AR today. Love the way it shoots. Only one problem. It will not eject the fired case. I can trigger the bolt release, closing the bolt on the spent cartridge and manually eject it with the charging handle with no problem or effort. I can insert a full magazine and manually eject every round without a hitch but it will not...

Like I Needed Another Reason

:mad:I went to feed cattle today. Found one of my cows dead by the tank. She had been in the process of calving when the coyotes got to her. They ate into her rear end trying to get to the calf, I could see the calf's front hooves. They also attacked her from the front and stripped out her lips, nose, tongue, eyes and ears. I have had this happen many...

Kite Flying Weather

Posted by bar-d, 06 April 2010 - - - - - - · 15 views

I still have not been able to shoot my new AR. We have had winds of 25 to 45 mph here for the last couple of weeks. Thursday's forecast calls for 5 to 10 mph. Being self employed, I granted myself some personal time to get it sighted in. Hopefully will have some target pics to post by Friday.

Got the Willies!

I was rebuilding some fence on one of my places today. It is very thick growth along the fenceline so I was chain sawing and stomping down the weeds. I started stretching wire and down the fence, I realized I had missed a tree branch growing low over the fence keeping me from stretching the wire correctly. So, I bottleassed off down the fence and nearly...
