After work this evening, I had time to make one stand.

The entire archery season, while glassing for mule deer we had seen several coyotes on this farm, but for some reason had never called it. Tonight however, we had a west wind, perfect to set up on a coffin rock and call in a dog.

With the sun rapidly setting on us (a very beautiful sight, I might add) we started with a lonesome howl, that echoed nicely down the creek below us. I did this a two times, and was joined by my partner Brett and we finished that sequence with a serenade. Nothing. Shortly after that, I threw in a male challenge, to no avail.

I wish I could say we called in a dog, but we saw nothing...except white butts bounding over the hills. But, we didn't come home empty handed...I did manage to trip over a decent shed antler and Brett leaned against an electric fence. I had an antler for the collection, and a really good laugh.

Maybe tomorrow will be different. We are calling cats tomorrow evening.
